Q 9: Is it permissible to
delay Salah (Prayer), such as `Asr (Afternoon) Prayer, until its time is over if there is a necessity to do so?
For example, a surgeon conducting an operation; leaving the patient for a short period may endanger their life.
A:
A surgeon should choose a proper time to carry out operations without abandoning the Salah at its due time. In case of necessity, it is permissible to combine two Salahs at the time of the earlier or the later one, such as performing Zhuhr (Noon) and `Asr Prayers or Maghrib (Sunset) and `Isha' (Night) Prayers together, as necessity dictates. If the Salah cannot be combined with the next one, such as `Asr and Fajr (Dawn) Prayers, it is preferable, if possible, to perform each Salah during its due time, even by taking turns with other workers - when one group finishes praying, another starts. If this is not possible, there is no blame if the Salah is delayed and made up after finishing the operation out of necessity, which is estimated according to the seriousness of the case.May Allah grant us success.
