A father bequeathing that his son gives away Sadaqah on his behalf as long as he lives

Q: My father died and I would like to give Sadaqah (voluntary charity) for him during my lifetime. Your Eminence, would you please inform me in which month I should offer this Sadaqah. Is it permissible to offer Sadaqah for a deceased person in any of the cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or should it be offered in the city where he died? It should be noted that I live in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the deceased used to live in the Southern Province. Please, enlighten us in this regard.

A: First, if your father left behind a legitimate will, you should execute it within the one third of his legacy after settling any debts. If you are of age and offer Sadaqah for him from your own money, this is a good thing and is considered an act of filial piety, for which you will be rewarded and it will also benefit the deceased by means of Allah's Grace and Bestowal. Second, you should offer the Sadaqah from your best and most precious possessions, and distribute it among the poor in needy countries. If this takes place in Ramadan, it would be better.
