A father preventing his daughter-in-law from covering her face in the presence of her brother-in-law

Q 3: My father helped me to get married. Afterwards, I noticed that he is not content with my having my wife cover her face in front of my brother. He sees that my action is a form of discredit and distrust towards my brother. Therefore, in order not to displease him, I had her uncover her face based on the opinion adopted by some scholars who consider it permissible. Similarly, my father in law has some colleagues whom he regards as his brothers, and like fathers to my wife, despite the fact that there is no kinship between them. I acted the same towards them to avoid displeasing my father in law. Please direct me to that which in your opinion will be best for our well-being, and offer some advice to my father.

A: It is impermissible for you to be lenient in this matter, rather you must command her to cover her face in front of your brother, and whoever is a non-Mahram (not a spouse or an unmarriageable relative) for her (Part No. 17; Page No. 285) amongst your father in law's colleagues or others. There is no obedience to any person in what includes disobedience to Allah; the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: Obedience is obligatory only in what is Ma`ruf (that which is judged as good, beneficial, or fitting by Islamic law and Muslims of sound intellect) Allah (Glorified be He) states: And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). He (Glorified be He) also states: ...and whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
