Q 2: What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an collectively upon entering one's new house or to alleviate harm or anxiety?

A: It is recommended that a Muslim says Bismillah (In the Name of Allah) and recites Surah (Qur'anic chapter) Al-Baqarah upon entering the house. It was authentically narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited. However, it should not be recited collectively because this is an act of (Part No. 2; Page No. 189) Bid`ah (innovation in religion). Reciting the Qur'an in houses in the manner mentioned above has no basis in the Shari`ah (Islamic law).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
