Q 1: On the first day of Ramadan, I had sexual intercourse with my wife a while before Fajr Prayer, and we did not realize that this day was the first of Ramadan except after sunrise, knowing that we fasted on this day after recognizing that it was Ramadan. Please advise me if there is any other expiation for this other than fasting for two consecutive months, as I am an employee, and have no capability to offer Sawm (Fast) at the time being. Please advise me in this regard, May Allah reward you amply.

A: If the case is as mentioned, then there is no expiation on you for not knowing that the month had begun. Yet you and your wife should make up for this day for not having the intention of Sawm. (Part No. 10; Page No. 315) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
