A midwife as a non-Mahram

352

Q: Some women help deliver other women and cut their babies' umbilical cords. Are these women and their children considered Mahrams (unmarriageable relative) to the babies?

A: Being a midwife who helps women give birth and cut their babies' umbilical cords does not mean that she or her children become Mahrams to the babies born. There is no Mahram without blood, marriage or suckling relations. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
