A stepson as a Mahram to his stepmother

1643

Q 1: I ask Your Eminence to clarify the matter regarding the children of my first husband who were born years after my divorce and his marriage to another woman. Are they considered as Mahrams (unmarriageable relatives) to me? Am I sinful to uncover my face in front of them? It is worth mentioning that I also had a son from that husband. My husband also had a daughter before our marriage, and this daughter married and had children. Are these children Mahrams to me so that there is no blame on me if I shake hands with them and uncover my face in their presence?

A: Your husband's children who were born before your marriage with him and those who were born after your divorce are Mahrams to you and you are permitted to deal with them in the same way you do with other Mahrams. The same applies to the children of your husband's daughter. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
