A woman and her daughter traveling without a Mahram to perform Hajj

389

Q 3: Is it permissible for two sisters or a mother and her daughter to travel to perform Hajj without a Mahram (spouse or permanently unmarriageable relative) as they live in a non-Muslim country?

A: It is impermissible for a woman to travel without a Mahram, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Day of Resurrection to travel unless she has a Mahram with her." A group of women cannot be a substitute for a Mahram when traveling, as this was authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him). May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
