Q 1: A family has some old jewelry - necklaces and chains - that include some beads that were very valuable in the past, but are of no value now. They are no longer worn by women and so there is no market where they can be sold. My question is:
How can we pay the Zakah on these jewels
that have no value?
A:
If this jewelry has gold or silver in it that reaches the Nisab (the minimum amount on which Zakah is due), whether by itself or combined with commercial commodities owned by this family, then Zakah is due on that; otherwise no Zakah is due. (Part No. 9; Page No. 269) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
