A woman's husband as Mahram to her mother

379

Q 3: A man concluded a marriage contract and paid the Mahr (mandatory gift to a bride from her groom) but the wife died before consummating the marriage. Is he considered a Mahram (unmarriageable relative) to the deceased woman's mother or not so that she should not uncover her face in front of him? Kindly give us your Fatwa in this regard.

A: If the reality is as you mentioned, that the marriage contract was concluded, then the deceased woman is a wife to the person who signed the contract and he is entitled to inherit her in addition to his being a Mahram to her mother and grandmothers upon the conclusion of that contract, but he is not a Mahram to her daughters. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
