Q: My son's name is (Daniel), is this forbidden? I should mention that it was mentioned in
Ibn Kathir's
book of Tafsir (Exegesis of the Meanings of the Qur'an) that it is the name of a Prophet. Moreover, this
name,
Daniel,
is widely used in our society. I hope that you will illustrate the ruling on that.
A:
There is no harm in
giving someone the name (Daniel) because it is not prohibited as it is the name of (Part No. 10; Page No. 501) one of the Prophets of Allah. Giving people the names of Prophets, such as Muhammad, Musa (Moses), `Isa (Jesus), etc. Is allowable.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
