Q:
I married my paternal cousin and I now want to marry another of my cousins, the daughter of my second uncle.
My uncle has objected to this, saying that he regards my wife as his daughter and I do not have the right to marry his daughter along with my current wife as she is her cousin. What is the ruling on that marriage according to the Shari‘ah (Islamic law)?

A:
If the reality is as you mentioned, it is permissible for you to marry your second paternal uncle’s daughter; it is also permissible to be married to her and your first paternal uncle’s daughter at the same time, if there is no prohibitive impediment that forbids such a marriage, such as breastfeeding and the like. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
