Can the son that the father appointed as his agent slaughter Udhiyah on the father's behalf from the bequeathed one third?

356

Q 3: Is it obligatory for a son, bequeathed by his dead father to be his deputy, to slaughter an Ud-hiyah (sacrificial animal offered by non-pilgrims) on behalf of the father in particular? Or, is it sufficient to slaughter an Ud-hiyah on behalf of the whole family in general?

A: If your father did not bequeath that an Ud-hiyah be slaughtered out of the third of his estate on his own behalf, you may voluntarily either slaughter an Ud-hiyah on his behalf in particular, or slaughter an Ud-hiyah on his behalf along with (Part No. 16; Page No. 407) yourself and your family. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
