Q 1: Is it permissible
to recite the entire Qur'an in less than three days?
A:
It is permissible to complete a Khatmah (one complete reading of the entire Qur'an) in less than three days, if it is recited (Part No. 3; Page No. 78) according to the Shar`y (Islamically lawful) prescription. However, it is better to complete a Khatmah in more than three days. It is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to
`Abdullah ibn `Amr ibn Al-`As (may Allah be pleased with him and his father):
'Recite the entire Qur'an in one month.' I (`Abdullah) said, 'But I have power (to do more than this).' We kept arguing until he (peace be upon him) said, 'Recite it in seven days, and do not finish it in less than this period.' I said, 'I have power (to do more than this).' He (peace be upon him) said, 'Recite it in three days; for anyone who recites the entire Qur'an in less than three days does not understand it.'
(Agreed upon by Al-Bukhari and Muslim; the wording is that of
Abu Dawud) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
