Q 4: What is meant by Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)? Is it forming Dhikr groups, beating drums and clapping, or remembering Allah loudly and subvocally, and reciting the Qur'an?

A: Dhikr is a general word; it includes carrying out Allah's orders, avoiding His prohibitions, Tasbih (glorification of Allah), Tahlil (saying: "La ilaha illa Allah [There is no god except Allah]"), Tahmid (saying: "Al-hamdu lillah [All praise is due to Allah]"), whether loudly or subvocally, reciting the Qur'an and such sayings and deeds ordained by Allah. It does not include beating drums, clapping or collective Dhikr; this is a prohibited Bid`ah (innovation in religion).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
