Q 4: What is the opinion of our Shaykh on immediately selling what is paid as Zakat-ul-Fitr (obligatory charity paid before the Festival of Breaking the Fast)? For example, Zakatul-Fitr paid as a Sa` (1 Sa`=3 kg. Approx.) of foodstuff may be distributed to the poor, who may in turn sell it for money. What is the ruling on those who distribute Zakatul-Fitr as cash money?

A: If the person to whom Zakatul-Fitr is distributed is a deserving person, he may sell it after receiving it as it thus becomes his own property. However, Zakatul-Fitr may not be distributed in cash according to the sound opinion we know which is the opinion of the Jumhur (dominant majority of scholars).May Allah grant us success.
