Doctors lying to patients

332

Q 11: Doctors may need to lie to the patients concerning their health condition, especially as the patient may get worse if they know their real condition. (Part No. 24; Page No. 432) Is the doctor sinful for doing this?

A: It is permissible to lie to the patient if this is in their best interest and will have no harmful effects on the patient or anyone else. But if it is possible for the doctor to use allusion, without resorting to direct lying, that would be safer and preferable.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.
