Q 4:
there is an animal called Cape Hyrax (rock rabbit, called Wabar in Arabic) that has fangs, but it does not eat meat,
just plants. Its feces are similar to that of a sheep, but smaller. Is it permissible to eat the meat of this animal or not?
A:
It is Halal (lawful) to eat the Cape Hyrax, as a ransom has to be offered if a Muhrim (pilgrim in the ritual state for Hajj and ‘Umrah) kills one while they are in Ihram (ritual state for Hajj and ‘Umrah) or in the Haram (the Sacred Sanctuary of Makkah). It is a rabbit-like animal that feeds on plants and herbs, and it is regarded as one of At-Tayyibat (lawful good things), because it does not have predatory fangs and it is not one of the foul or repulsive animals.
