Q 1: A man swore by the Qur'an by placing his hand over it saying, "By the Qur'an, I did not do such and such thing," but in fact he did it. What is the ruling on the oath sworn by the Qur'an? What is
the Kaffarah (expiation) for it?
A:
Anyone who swears that he has not done a particular thing while he knows that he has done it has committed a major sin that requires Tawbah (repentance to Allah) and determination not to do that again. There is no harm in swearing by the
Qur'an, because it is the Word of Allah. Therefore, swearing by it is the same as swearing by one of Allah's Attributes. (Part No. 23; Page No. 137) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
