Q: A man was entrusted by a group of pilgrims to perform the stoning on their behalf; however, he merely threw them away in the street and did not inform them. They are now unable to stone the pillars. What is the ruling in this regard?

A: If the case is as the questioner mentioned, the person entrusted is considered negligent and sinful. He must therefore, repent and ask Allah for forgiveness. In addition, he must inform the people of what he did, and as such, every one of them is obliged to offer a sacrificial animal for not having stoned (the pillars during Hajj). They also have the right to charge this person for the cost of the animals they are required to sacrifice in expiation, because he is the one to blame. If this person did not throw pebbles for himself, he also must offer a sacrificial animal that counts as Ud-hiyah (sacrificial animal offered by non-pilgrims) and slaughter it in Makkah distributing it among the poor there. Along with this, he must sincerely repent for what he has done.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
