Men studying gynecology

A: First and second, if there are enough women specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics, it is not permissible for you to study that branch or see the `Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public) of women, whether during training, examination or surgical operation. However, if there are not enough women in that specialization, and Muslims need more specialists, it is permissible for you to study this branch and reveal the necessary parts of a woman's body for examination or performing a surgical operation. Third, if there is an experienced female doctor who can treat a woman, it is impermissible for her to go to a male doctor. Otherwise, it is permissible for her to do so. Fourth, it is permissible for a female doctor to examine male patients if necessary and no male doctors are found. Otherwise, it is impermissible and a male doctor should treat them.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
