Q: I removed two of my right lower jaw molars and two of the left ones. The point is that some people consider
fitting gold teeth
Haram (prohibited) while others hold it as Mubah (permissible) and mention that ivory has a bad odor. Please tell me whether it is Mubah for me to fix on the four (Part No. 24; Page No. 54) gold molars mentioned above.
A:
If all other materials other than gold get malodorous when they are used for fitting artificial teeth, it will be Mubah for you to fix on gold molars in case of necessity. Proof of the foregoing is the following narration:
`Arfajah ibn As`ad nose was cut in the battle of Kilab so he fixed on a silvery nose but it got malodorous and the Prophet (peace be upon him) directed him to fix on a gold one.
(Related by
Abu Dawud and others and was ranked as Sahih (authentic) by
Al-Hakim) Also, on the authority of
Al-Athram who narrated that
Musa ibn Talhah,
Abu Jamrah Al-Dab`y,
Abu Rafi`,
Thabit Al-Bunany,
Isma`il ibn Zayd ibn Thabit, and
Al-Mughirah ibn `Abdullah fixed their teeth with gold.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
