Q 4: One of my teachers advised me not to
go far in memorizing the Qur'an without having a shaykh
in order to avoid making mistakes. Is this true?
A:
It is better to learn and memorize the Qur'an at the hand of a good reciter who can recite well, if this is possible. If it is not, you should try to recite the Qur'an according to you ability, because Allah (Exalted be He) says:
Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said:
The person who recites the Qur'an with difficulty and falters in it shall have a double reward.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
