Giving soothsayers money to avoid their harm

469

Q 7: If a person tried to leave them (soothsayers), they might prevent him. So, is it permissible to give them money to avoid them? And if one is able to do without their medications and magic acts, is it permissible to salute them or should they be deserted all together?

A: Firstly: It is forbidden to give them money in return for their evil acts they do when one visits them. Yet, there is no harm in giving them money to ward off their evil. Secondly: It is not permissible to salute them as long as they are practicing their magic acts unless they quit them and repent. Rather, they should be deserted and the matter should be referred to the competent court, authority and emirate to administer the proper punishment to them, such as killing or whatever stipulated.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
