Having sexual intercourse with the wife in the daytime in Ramadan, then performing Hajj this year

434

Q: A man had sexual intercourse with his wife several times in the daytime in Ramadan. He was newly married and this happened some years ago. Then, they performed Hajj and `Umrah (lesser pilgrimage). What is incumbent on them?

A: It is incumbent on them to make up for the days on which they had sexual intercourse and to feed a poor person for each day because they delayed making up for those days. Furthermore, it is obligatory on them to offer Kaffarah (expiation) for each day on which they had sexual intercourse. If they (Part No. 9; Page No. 242) had sexual intercourse several times on the same day, each of them is required to observe only one Kaffarah, which is to free a Muslim slave. If this is not possible, then it is to fast two successive months. If this is also impossible, then each one has to feed sixty poor persons. What they did does not affect their Hajj and `Umrah as long as they performed them in the right way.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
