Q: I am a caretaker of a Masjid (mosque) and
someone gave me an amount of money to pay the salary of a teacher of the Noble Qur'an. It happened that another person took it upon himself to pay the salary of the teacher for the entire period of teaching. Some time ago, a man came to me and said that his insolvent mother died and left behind a debt that he had to pay, but he is unable to pay it off. Is it permissible for me to give that amount of money as Sadaqah (voluntary charity) on behalf of its owner?
Please advise, may Allah reward you with the best!

A:
You must return the money to its owner and tell him about what happened. If he allows you to spend it in any other charitable way, it is permissible for you to do so.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
