Q 2: I live in
Egypt
and my father is a butcher. His job requires
men and women intermixing at home, especially relatives,
(Part No. 17; Page No. 190) business owners, and others. Our house consists of two floors: the first is for my father and my brothers, and the second is for me and my wife who wears the Niqab (face veil) and does not reveal her face in front of any of those; whether my brothers or anybody else. We know the ruling on mixing between men and women, and the ruling on taking off the Hijab (veil) in front of male in-laws. However, the problem lies in my parents. If I prevent my wife from visiting my parents, my father will be angry, and I will suffer. I have asked my father to live with me on the second floor, but he refused, as my elder brother lives with him on the first floor. My question is whether it is permissible for me to live with them in that house while they mix this way. I know very well the parents' rights on their children. If I move to another house where we can obey Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He), my father will be extremely angry. Please advise, may Allah benefit us and you.
A:
You should exert every effort to make your father understand the Shar`y (Islamically lawful) ruling on Hijab and free intermixing of men and women. If he accepts it, it will be fine; otherwise, you should move to another house and behave kindly towards him. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
