My sister died a long time ago,

399

Q: My sister died before she married. She was nearly twenty-five when she passed away; five years before her father. I asked some of the Fuqaha’ (Muslim jurists) here if Hajj was obligatory on her, and they said that it was not, because she died before her father and was not married. After reading my question, I hope that you will guide me to what will please Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) and to what is right. (Part No. 11; Page No. 56)

A: If the situation is as you mentioned, it is not obligatory on you to perform Hajj on her behalf, but if you do so, as an act of piety and benevolence to her, that will be good. If she had money during her lifetime, which she could have used to perform Hajj, it is obligatory to perform Hajj on her behalf with this money, before distributing the inheritance.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
