Q: If a young Muslim man
marries without holding a Walimah (wedding dinner), has he committed a sin
or not? Is it one of the obligatory conditions to contract a marriage?
A:
Holding a Walimah is legislated for a wedding, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to
`Abdul-Rahman ibn `Awf,
“Hold a Walimah, even with one sheep.”
However, refraining from holding one has no effect on the validity of a marriage contract. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
