Q 5:
When I obey my parents I am sometimes afflicted with worldly losses,
do I have to continue obeying them or not?
A:
You have to obey your parents when they ask you to do a Ma`ruf (that which is judged as good, beneficial, or fitting by Islamic law and Muslims of sound intellect). However, you are not to obey them if they ask you to do any act of disobedience to Allah. A proof for this is the Hadith in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated:
Obedience is obligatory only in what is good (and reasonable). There is no obedience in matters involving disobeying or displeasing Allah.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
