Q 1:
Is it permissible for a man to take back gifts which he has given to his brother?
Please support your answer with evidence.
A:
It is not permissible for him to take it back, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) was authentically reported to have said,
One who takes back his gift (which he has already given) is like a dog that swallows its vomit.
Reported by
Al-Bukhari and
Muslim.
It is proved that the Prophet (peace be upon him) also said,
We (believers) should not be described by such an evil simile. The one who takes back his gift is like a dog which vomits, then returns to (eat) its vomit.
