Proposing to a girl for one's son while he is on Hajj

926

Q 1: Is it permissible for parents to propose to a girl for their son while he is on Hajj?

A: It is permissible for a person to commission another, a father or anyone else, to ask for a girl's hand in marriage on his behalf, whether the man on whose behalf the proposal is made is on Hajj or not. There is no clear evidence that doing so is among the prohibitions during Hajj or `Umrah. Only the Muhrim (pilgrim in the ritual state for Hajj and `Umrah) himself is forbidden to ask for a woman's hand in marriage and not his Wakil (legally accountable person who acts on behalf of another for a specific permissible matter).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
