Reciting the Qur'an without knowing its interpretation

Q 2: I heard from seekers of Islamic knowledge that anyone who recites the Qur'an without knowing its Tafsir (explanation/exegesis) is a sinner. Your Eminence, what is your opinion concerning this, given that I do not know Tafsir?

A: Reciting the Qur'an, even without understanding its meaning, is considered of the righteous deeds which are rewarded. However, when the Muslim contemplates what he recites and thinks deeply about the meanings of Allah's Words, his reward is greater and he is going to be more affected by it. The claim of the person referred to in the question is a clear fault from which he should repent to Allah (Exalted be He).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
