Rulings on the paternal uncle's wife

382

Q 1: My husband's brother has a daughter. She was brought up with us in her uncle's house. Now she is married and has children. Are her sons Mahrams (unmarriageable relative) to me? Is it permissible for me to kiss them and travel with them? I hope your Eminence will guide me to do the right. I am her uncle's wife and I do not have children. Thank Allah for everything.

A: The children of this girl are not Mahrams to you even if she has been brought up (Part No. 17; Page No. 432) with you in the house of your husband who is her uncle. They should not travel with you alone or sit in Khulwah (being alone with a member of the opposite sex) with you. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
