Saying 'O Lord, You are the source of my honor'

Q: We hear some people saying, "Ya Ilahi Anta Jahy (meaning, O my Lord, You are [the source of] my honor)." What is the ruling on uttering such a statement? Is it legally forbidden as its apparent meaning, Allah knows best, implies that one should not utter it? Until we receive your reply, is such a statement legally forbidden? We would be grateful if you could elaborate on this point. May Allah preserve you for your comprehensive replies!

A: It is not permissible for a Muslim to use such a statement in supplication, as such a statement is neither mentioned in the Qur'an nor in the Prophetic Sunnah. Also, "source of honor" is not an attribute of Allah (Exalted be He). It is probable that such an attribute means intention and fulfillment of needs, which is literally wrong, even though the meaning is correct. It is also probable that such an attribute denotes granting Shafa`ah (intercession), which is wrong both literally and semantically.May Allah grant us success.
