Should a woman wear a Khimar above the Hijab?

393

Q 2: Is it permissible for women to put on Khimar (veil covering to the waist) over the Hijab (veil)? Which is preferable, wearing a Khimar and a loose garment or a cloak covering from head down to toe?

A: It is Wajib (obligatory) for Muslim women to cover their heads, faces, and their entire bodies in front of non-Mahrams (not spouses or unmarriageable relatives). The Khimar should cover the head then the cloak is to be drawn over it. The proof is Allah's statement (Glorified be He): O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). (Part No. 17; Page No. 176) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
