Singling out a son for a gift with the brothers' consent

376

A: Parents should be fair with their children in respect of giving gifts. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'Be afraid of Allah, and be just to your children.' There is no harm in the conduct of your father if the rest of your brothers, who are of age, are content. However, if they are not, it is not permissible for your parent to privilege you and your brother with gifts to the exclusion of the rest of your brothers, on account of the said Hadith. If there is a dispute in this regard, you should refer it to the Shari`ah Court. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
