Q 7: I do not feel comfortable with tearing apart letters and papers containing some words and phrases, such as "In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful", Ayahs (Qur'anic verses), Hadiths and Allah's Names. When I find a lot of such papers, I sometimes burn them and at other times, I can not do so in the office, and as such, I only make a strikethrough on the written Ayahs and Allah's Names, then I tear them apart. Is there any blame on my part? Needless to mention that
many daily newspapers contain Ayahs and Hadiths, and they are placed on the table
and after eating the leftover food is put in such papers and thrown into the dust bin. Is this permissible?

If such papers contain Basmalah (saying, "Bismillah Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim [In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful]") or some Ayahs of the Qur'an or Hadith, it is not permissible to eat on them or to throw them in a dust bin, rather they should be burnt or buried in a remote place away from walking paths. They may also be torn into pieces in a way that conceals the letters of Basmalah, Ayahs and Hadith, and there is nothing wrong with that.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
