A:
All praise be to Allah Alone, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, and his family and Companions.
The urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled with water as long as he does not yet eat solid food. But if he is nourished on solid food, the clothes or anything that are soiled with his urine must be washed. Clothes or anything soiled with the urine of a baby girl should be washed whether she eats solid food or not yet. (Part No. 5; Page No. 369) The ruling principle in this regard is the Hadith reported by
Al-Bukhari,
Muslim,
Abu Dawud and others. Following is the wording of the Hadith as reported by
Abu Dawud in his
Sunan according to his Sanad (chain of narrators) on the authority of
Um Qays bint Mihsan that she brought her little son who has not yet eaten solid food to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sat him on his lap, and he urinated on his garment, so he called for some water and poured it (over the soiled area), but did not wash it.
Abu Dawud and
Ibn Majah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
The urine of a baby girl should be washed and the urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled over with water.
In another narration reported by
Abu Dawud:
The urine of a baby girl should be washed and the urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled over with water as long as he has not yet eaten solid food.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
