Q: A relative of mine sowed dissension among members of my family and thus I
took an oath that I would never have any relationship or talk with him.
It may be worth mentioning that this man lives in the same house where I live and that he has stirred up troubles several times before.
A:
If you talk to this relative, it will be Wajib (obligatory) on you to make Kaffarah (expiation) for breaking your oath. (Part No. 23; Page No. 83) The Kaffarah is to feed ten poor people on a scale of the average of that with which you normally feed yourself, to clothe them, or to free a believing slave. If you are unable to do any of that, you should observe Sawm (Fast) for three days.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
