(Part No. 1; Page No. 520)  A: In making Du‘a’ (supplication), to seek to draw close to Allah and beseech Him (Tawassul) in the name of the honor of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), or his person, or his status, is impermissible because it is a means leading to Shirk (associating others with Allah in His Divinity or worship). Research on this topic was thus conducted to clarify what is right and what is wrong, which is a subject matter of ‘Aqidah. However, it is permissible to seek to draw close to Allah (Exalted be He) and beseech Him by His Names and Attributes and by following His Messenger and acting upon the beliefs and laws with which he was sent.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
