The Hadith: 'Every one of the children of Adam is created with three hundred and sixty joints'

488

Q 1: It is related by Imam Muslim that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Every one of the children of Adam is created with three hundred and sixty joints; so anyone who celebrates the Glory of Allah by Takbir (saying: 'Allahu Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]'), Tasbih (saying: 'Subhan Allah [Glory be to Allah]'), Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah) or removes [harmful] stones or bones from people's path, or enjoins what is good and forbids what is evil, equal to the number of those three hundred and sixty joints, will walk that day having removed himself from Hell.

A: This Hadith is related by Muslim in his Sahih on the authority of `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Its exact wording is as follows: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'Every one of the children of Adam is created with three hundred and sixty joints; so anyone who celebrates the Glory of Allah by Takbir (saying: 'Allahu Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]'), Tahmid (saying: 'Al-hamdu lillah [All praise is due to Allah]'), Tahlil (saying: 'La ilaha illa Allah [There is no god except Allah]'), Tasbih (saying: 'Subhan Allah [Glory be to Allah]'), Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah) and removes a stone, thorn, or bone from people's path, and enjoins what is good and (Part No. 3; Page No. 219) forbids what is evil, equal to the number of those three hundred and sixty joints, will walk that day having removed himself from Hell. It is also related by Imam Muslim in his Sahih on the authority of Abu Dhar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: By every morning, Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every utterance of Tasbih is an act of Sadaqah, every utterance of Tahmid is an act of Sadaqah, every utterance of Tahlil is an act of Sadaqah, every utterance of Takbir is an act of Sadaqah, enjoining right is an act of Sadaqah, and forbidding wrong is an act of Sadaqah. And the two Rak`ahs (units of Prayer) offered in the mid-morning (Duha) suffice instead of this.
