To teach the Qur''an in return for fees

Q 3: What is the ruling on taking wages for teaching the Qur'an to students at schools and elsewhere if a person has no other income? May Allah reward you with the best.

A: Teaching students the Qur'an in schools or elsewhere is permissible whether one receives fees or not. This is derived from the general meaning of the sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He said: "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it." and "You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah's Book." The Prophet (peace be upon him) married one of his Companions to a woman and (Part No. 15; Page No. 98) made her dowry teaching her what he memorized of the Qur'an. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
