Q 5: Someone asked me:
Is it permissible for a man to allow his wife, mother and sisters to uncover their faces when they travel outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?
It should be noted that they wear clothes that cover all their bodies except the face and hands. It should also be noted that if they cover their faces, they become the focus of people's eyes wherever they go. Is it permissible for a man to take the females of his family on a journey abroad, outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Part No. 17; Page No. 276) to see places of interest in Arab countries without going to evil places there?
A: First,
it is unlawful for a woman to uncover her face and hands in front of strange men whether inside or outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Second,
it is not permissible for a Muslim person to take the females of his family on a journey abroad to places where temptation and seduction are common, because this may lead to great evils and temptation. Lawful alternatives for this are to go to places of interest in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia without the prohibitions that are common abroad. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
