Treating a man by just pointing to him

428

Q: A man claims that he treats patients by just looking at them without prescribing any medicines. (Part No. 1; Page No. 226) He only points to the right side to tell that a patient has recovered or to the left side to tell that they have not. Is such treatment permissible? Is it permissible to be treated by such a man?

A: It is not permissible to go to this man who treats by signs, for he is a liar and a charlatan. Moreover, he may be a soothsayer who seeks the help of Jinn (creatures created from fire). It is worth mentioning that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Anyone who goes to a diviner or a soothsayer and believes in what they say has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad." Thus, receiving treatment is permissible when the treating person uses lawful Ruqyah (reciting Qur'an and supplications over the sick as a cure) or permissible, tried medication.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.
