A: I had dental caries when I was a child and my parents did not give me any medical treatment. As I grew up, my problem increased to the extent that recently I lost most of my molars and some of my other teeth. Accordingly, now I always suffer from indigestion. I also find it difficult to talk with my friends. Thus, I think to visit a dentist to fix on (Part No. 25; Page No. 57) an artificial denture but I would like to know the ruling on doing so. Provide me with your beneficial Fatwa please. May Allah reward you with the best.
A:
It is permissible that you seek medical treatment to get rid of any deformation and to replace the decayed teeth or molars with artificial ones. Proof of the foregoing is a Hadith in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
"Yes, O servants of Allah! Seek treatment, for Allah has not placed a disease without placing a cure for it (or he said: a medicine), except for one disease.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! What is it?” He said, “Old age.”
Abu `Isa commented: "Other narrations were reported to the same effect by
Ibn Mas`ud,
Abu Hurayrah,
Abu Khuzamah on the authority of his father, and
Ibn `Abbas and it is an authentic Hadith Hasan (a Hadith whose chain of narration contains a narrator with weak exactitude, but is free from eccentricity or blemish).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
