Vaginal bleeding after menopause

423

Q 5: What is the ruling on a woman who, after the beginning of her fifties and a year after her menopause, experiences bleeding due to pathological or psychological problems. Should she offer Salah (Prayer)?

A: The vaginal bleeding that a woman experiences after the age of menopause, which is fifty, is not menstrual blood. It is abnormal vaginal bleeding. Therefore, she should not stop Salah or Sawm (Fasting) due to it. Moreover, it does not have the same rulings of menstruation. `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Once a woman reaches fifty, she is outside the rulings of menstruation." (Related by Ahmad) (Part No. 4; Page No. 234) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
