Wearing a white wedding dress on the wedding night

353

Q 5: Does wearing a white wedding dress on the wedding day and pertinent ornaments have an Islamic origin? If it has an Islamic origin, is it permissible for the bride to uncover her face on her wedding day, taking into consideration that there are many Ajanib (men other than a husband or permanently unmarriageable male relatives) on the way to her husband's house?

A: It is permissible for women to wear a wedding dress or any kind of clothes that are pertinent for women on the wedding day provided that it covers all her body and does not entail imitation of men or disbelieving women. However, it is not permissible for a woman to uncover her face in front of non-Mahram men (not a spouse or an unmarriageable relative) on her wedding day or on any other day. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
