Q: What is the ruling on
women cutting their hair for a necessity?
For example, in
Britain,
women cut their hair short, because it is difficult for them to wash long hair in the cold weather.
A:
All praise be to Allah Alone, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, and his family and Companions.
If the situation is as you mentioned, it is permissible for women to cut their hair short, just by as much as is necessary. However, it is not permissible to cut it short in imitation of the disbelieving women, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Whoever imitates a people is one of them.”
