Q 4: What is the white Qassah with regard to women? What are the rulings related to it?

A: The scholars held different opinions concerning defining the white Qassah mentioned in the statement of the Mother of the Believers, `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Do not hurry until you see the white Qassah." She was referring by this to Taharah (ritual purification) from menstruation. There are two opinions held in this regard:The first opinion holds that the white Qassah is a white discharge that comes out of women at the end of menstruation as a sign of purity from menses. (Part No. 4; Page No. 212) The second opinion holds that it refers to a woman inserting a piece of cotton or cloth in her vagina, which, if it comes out white and clean with no traces of blood, Sufrah (yellow vaginal discharge during or after menstruation) or Kudrah (dusky-colored vaginal discharge during or after menstruation), this is a sign of purity from menses, that is, complete cessation of bleeding.Accordingly, women become pure from menses by either of the two ways; when she sees a white discharge at the end of menstruation, or when she inserts a piece of cotton or so in her vagina and it comes out white. In either case, this indicates that she has become pure.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
